Supernovas are basically huge stars exploding. Gravity is a main character in giving a supernova its energy. There are two types of supernovas, type 1a and type II. Type 1a results from binary star systems in which a carbon-oxygen white dwarf is accreting from a companion. In most scenarios, so much mass piles up on the white dwarf that its core reaches a critical density of 2*10 to the ninth power g/cm cubed. This is enough to result in an uncontrolled fusion of carbon and oxygen, causing the star to blow up. For type II supernovas, these are caused at the end of a massive star's lifetime, when its nuclear fuel is exhausted and is no longer supported by released nuclear energy. The star's iron core will collapse and become a supernova if it's big enough. Sometimes, black holes can be an after math from a supernova. Black holes are so compacted and dense that its gravity prevents anything from escaping back into space, even light.
Supernovas seemed to be an interesting topic to me. It seems cool how stars and possibly even the sun can explode in space. I never thought that it would be possible for an explosion to cause a black hole. I thought that learning about supernovas would be interesting, since I did not know much about them until now. Space has always fascinated me, and I thought that a star explosion would be very intriguing.
